Graphic Novels |
Not just for superheroes...
|
The Funnies? Are graphic novels just extended-length comics? Well, yes and no. They generally follow the sequential visual art form of comics, and, like comics, are often told in a series of rectangular panels of art and text. Sometimes graphic novels tell a single, continuous narrative from beginning to end. However, they can also be collections of short stories and even individual comic strips. And not all comics are funny. Many graphic novels emphasize adventure, drama, and character development over laugh-out-loud snicks and grins. And there are also nonfiction texts written in graphic form, which can make history seem much more of an adventure!
